Suzie Q

Suzie is a three year old, black and white spayed female with prick ears and a rough  coat. She is a purebred and is ABCA registered. She is NOT a pet store dog, having been purchased from a breeder in Maine. She weighs 39 - 40 lbs., her being tall is a bit deceptive.

She is now up to date on all her vaccinations and preventative medications, and is in overall good physical shape. She does have Lyme Disease and is presently being treated for it. She will not be placed until her treatment is complete (about three more weeks).

Suzie was surrendered to us because her family must move and they cannot take her with them. She was VERY well treated in her former home and is more than a bit spoiled. She does have a resource guarding issue, (food, toys and "her" person), but it is easily manageable. We will not place her in a home with young children.

Suzie rides well in the car, is quiet in the house, gets along well with other dogs and cats. She loves to play with her basketball and soccer ball. She is doing very well with her crate training but she does not respond well to yelling or type of loud reprimand. She loves to be with you, and the closer the better. She would do best in a home where she is an only dog.

She is a very lovable and special little girl, are you the special person she needs ???

Before a dog is accepted into NBCR, we do a thorough behavioral evaluation to identify any potential problems the dog might exhibit.  We will not accept any dog with a known history of aggression.  Each dog is then placed in one of our foster homes for a minimum of two weeks before it becomes available for adoption.  This allows us the opportunity to get to know each dog personally so that we might match him with the most appropriate applicant.  It also gives us the time we need to have each dog examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered if required, brought up to date on all vaccinations, tested for heartworm/lyme and treated where necessary.

NBCR will not reject any Border Collie in need for any physical disability, illness, or age related factors.  While most of our available dogs are younger Border Collies, we often do accept older dogs who need our help.  The Border Collie has a very long life span, typically 14 - 16 years of age, so a 10 year old Border Collie still has a lot of living to do and tons of love to give.  Best of all, our older dogs generally don't require the intense levels of activity and stimulation our younger dogs need.  We hope you will keep this in mind when considering our available dogs.

You should check our website frequently as different dogs are always coming into rescue as our current dogs move on to their new forever homes.  We recommend that you complete the adoption application process now even if we don't currently have a dog that appeals to you.  The process takes time and if you wait until a dog comes along that you like, you may lose a chance to adopt that dog to someone else who is already approved to adopt from us.  Please follow the steps below to apply:

1.  Complete and submit the adoption application form on our website.  Note: we do check references!

 2.  We will contact you to arrange an appointment for your home visit once your application is approved.
You must have a home visit before we will approve you to adopt a dog from us.  We ask that your
entire family  be present for this visit.

 3.  Before you inquire about any specific dog, please carefully review the write-up on that dog.  If

we say a dog cannot live with children and you have children, we will not adopt that dog to you.  Not all of
our dogs will   require a fenced yard, but If we say a dog requires a fence, we mean, at minimum, a four foot fence in good repair.

 4.  There is an adoption fee ranging between $250.00 - $350.00 for our Border Collies.
This money goes directly to helping us rescue and pay for veterinary care for another dog. Please
feel free to contact us for an explanation of the fee variance

 5.  When you adopt a dog from us, there is a two week grace period in which you may return the dog and get  a refund if you determine the dog is not the right fit for you.  After that, we encourage you to contact us at any time with updates, questions, or any concerns involving your dog.  NBCR remains committed to you and the Border Collie you adopt from us for the lifetime of that dog.  We are always available to offer advice, referrals, and any other assistance we can to you and your Border Collie.

                 PLEASE REMEMBER:

EVERYONE IN NBCR IS A VOLUNTEER.  MOST OF US WORK FULL-TIME JOBS AND SO WE ASK YOU TO BE PATIENT WITH US AS WE WORK TO FIND YOU THE BEST POSSIBLE MATCH WITH ONE OF OUR BORDER COLLIES.

WE DEPEND ON OUR ADOPTION FEES, AS WELL AS DONATIONS FROM THE  GENERAL PUBLIC, TO CONTINUE OUR WORK SAVING THESE EXCEPTIONAL DOGS.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING WITH NBCR  PLEASE COMPLETE OUR VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO NBCR, PLEASE SEND YOUR DONATION TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS:
