Northeast Border Collie Rescue (NBCR)
is an all-volunteer rescue group covering eastern Mass (including Cape
Cod), RI, a small portion of eastern New Hampshire and Maine. Our
volunteers have many years of experience living with and loving Border
Collies. We know first hand the Border Collie's special qualities,
quirks and needs which often times can make them inappropriate as family
pets. We accept Border Collies and occasionally BC mixes who are in need
of rescue and rehoming from owners, shelters, and other organizations in
our area. NBCR will not refuse any Border Collie because of age
or medical issues.
NBCR is dedicated to finding all our rescue dogs appropriate
Border Collie homes with adopters who understand and can meet the
special requirements of these wonderful dogs. Each Border Collie is
fostered in one of our approved foster homes and is treated as a member
of the family. We get to know our dogs very well and strive to match
their temperament, drive, work/sport potential, and other
characteristics with compatible applicants to ensure a successful
adoption.
You must complete our application form and have a home visit by one of
our volunteers before we will approve you to adopt one of our dogs. This
process does take time so we encourage you to apply early. You should
also know that we do check references and verify your information.
Every Border Collie entering NBCR is examined by a veterinarian,
neutered/spayed, tested for heartworm/lyme and treated when necessary,
brought up to date on all vaccinations, and given any necessary medical
care prior to their adoption. We also try to appropriately socialize our
rescue dogs and provide them with basic training if necessary.
As volunteers, our work in NBCR is truly a labor of love for
these incredible dogs. Most of us work full-time jobs and have our own
Border Collies who also require our attention. We ask that you please be
patient with us and with our process.
Northeast Border Collie Rescue's Mission is:
1. To provide proper emotional, mental and physical care to Border
Collies in need of rescue in our area including: spay/neutering and
current veterinary requirements to ensure each dog's health and safety.
2. To place rescued Border Collies in appropriate and loving forever
homes and to offer ongoing support and training to each individual
adopting a Border Collie through NBCR.
3. To educate the general public about the Border Collie breed, their
special needs, unique characteristics, and natural tendencies through
the presentation of relevant printed materials, valid information and
links accessible on our website, and by attendance at various events and
special functions in our region.
4. To actively continue to raise funds to meet the financial
responsibilities of rescuing and caring for Border Collies in need until
they are adopted into permanent homes.
